The Game of the Year award is one of the most prestigious honors in the gaming industry. It is an annual award given to the best video games of the year. Game Awards vote are selecting by a jury of over 100 leading media and influencer outlets across the globe.

It all started back in 2003 when the first video game award show, the Spike Video Game Awards (VGA), aired on TV. For a decade, the VGA celebrated the best games of the year, but in 2013, it was their last event. And one year later, The Game Awards were born.

The first official Game of the Year awards ceremony was on December 5, 2014. GOTY Awards are presented in various categories, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and many more. The show also features world premiere game trailers and announcements, as well as performances by musical artists.
